The River - Far Gearstones down to Helwith Bridge

The River

We own the double bank River Ribble fishing rights from Far Gearstones, through Lodge Hall, Selside, Newhouses, Horton in Ribblesdale and all the way down to Helwith Bridge. Below the bridge, we have a smal length of single bank fishing. Some 12 miles in all, apart from a few short yards in one or two places. The Ribble is an alkaline spate river and provides rewarding wild brown trout fishing amidst fabulous surroundingds; it’s an absolute joy to attract fish far bigger than their acid-water abiding cousins. The scenery is breath taking with the river settling in the shadow of Pen y Ghent and the Ribblehead Viaduct It also offers the occasional salmon for those fish that manage to ascend Stainforth Foss which acts as a barrier to other species such as coarse fish. We have not stocked the river with imported fish since 2006 and this has proved to be a considerable success witnessed by a wider spectrum of fish size and quality. A hidden jewel in England’s Crown indeed.
